Cossette laid of 80 people yesterday. If you read my previous post, the announcement about the move only came out yesterday and it only cited that “40 people” might be affected. Word is that Cossette had to “restructure” their Toronto office and that is why 80 people got let go, many of whom were not even on the Bell account. Oh and all that talk about people being offered the opportunity to go to Montreal … well only a few got that offer and it sure as hell wasn’t any of the 80 that got let go that were NOT working on the Bell account.
I have also heard that this is not the first time that Bell has upset the make-up of the Toronto office.
Will keep you posted!

I’ve been called bitter. Been through this crap for 27+ years. I used to keep my mouth good and shut. Stood up for no one and nothing, as long as I was getting mine. Then it started happening to me, and no one stood up either. In all actuality it’s been a long road, but through some very hard work I am in a good place and get unsolicited offers for work, both permanent and freelance all the time. I have also been in the position to help many of my competent friends. Call me whatever you like, but I will never roll over and play dead, nor will I stop pointing out what I feel is not right. People such as yourself are performing a public service and deserve every honest working persons gratitude. Thank you and fuck them.
PS Please make the t-shirt black, that color hides the ravages of time best.
Go to Cossette’s home page and click the carreer link for Montreal. LOT’S of job openings…..
Those who live in ice houses shouldn’t throw stones.
Ah … but what you don’t know is that the Bell account is notoriously hard to work for and Cossette has an retention issue on the account. Many postions in Montreal require a bi-lingual candidate, and it is very hard to find someone with the right experience who is bi-lingual in Quebecois French & English and they usually don’t come from Toronto. And if you are bi-lingual .. you can have your pick of jobs.
I was part of the fallout in 2004 when Bell moved to GRIP (before coming back). It affected all corners of the agency and made for a very acidic culture. 80 people on the streets in Toronto will make the job market even tighter. This is big news.
dearjanesample, thanks for posting this. You seem to know an awful lot about Cossette - of which some would call a classic BDA….hmmm.
