Working in Advertising Survival Tip - #7

Survival Tip #7: Start a Blog

Its a great way for you to vent about the daily crap that happens to you at work, because none of your family, friends or significant others really care.  As no one knows what it is you do, they don’t understand what you are complaining about.  What is a brief? What is an AD or a CD or a PM?  They all think your job is great.  I mean you work in ADVERTISING.  You don’t really “do” real work.  You have meetings, talk a lot, and think up “ideas”.  And everyone knows that those things are easy.  After all, everyone can talk and everyone gets ideas.  You just got lucky somehow that you found the secret to getting INTO advertising … because that’s the hard part, and not the actual work.

Blogging will also help you to find a community of like minded people who will vent with you.  Since you don’t know them in “real life” you can feel free to be as mean as you want without fearing that people will think that you are a bad person.   You can tell them how you REALLY feel about people.  And because they actually know what you do on a daily basis, they understand why you are pissed about something and will offer you the support you need.  They know exactly what to say, when you complain about a stupid co-worker or a crazy client.

Start a blog - it will keep you sane, in an insane industry.
