Brand Timeline Portraits
UPDATE: If you would like to have your Brand Timeline added to the list, please email me at dearjanesample@gmail.com. I’m having hell of a time keeping up with who links to me!
It’s official my Brand Timeline Portrait is the Defining post of my blogging life. Sure I got a lot of clicks and links to it, but what I love the most about this is how people have responded by creating their own Brand Timeline Portraits. That is why I have created this page on which I shall post links to all the other bloggers who have created their own Brand Timeline Portraits. So let’s see how much we have in common, shall we?

Thanks for the link love.
It’s funny, in the US, we spell Toad “T-o-a-d”
Taod must be one of those weird Canadian things like saying “zed” instead of “zee” or adding a “u” into words like “color” and “harbor”
(Seriously no big deal – just thought it would be fun to gently poke fun. I had a blast doing the brand timeline thing. Really make me think too, about how much it affects. me. And the heavy traffic from your site because of it is pretty incredible.! Glad to hear you and Sean had fun too, btw.)
May 25, 2008 at 11:11 pm
I seriously don’t know what a “taod” is.

I’ve just added mine: http://www.binkythedoormat.com/binky/2008/05/a-day-in-brands.html
Not sure if it makes me happy or sad…

DearJaneSample: I think this meme is a spectacular example of an viral idea and that of Hugh MacLeod’s observation that word-of-mouth is co-created by people who see something in it for themselves.
May be your ‘viral’ client needs to see this and learn for themselves but that would be revealing too much of your online alter-ego to them, perhaps?
Anyway, just a thought.
May 28, 2008 at 3:42 am
“Adding” a U to color and harbor isn’t a “weird Canadian thing”, it’s how they’re spelt in the original Queen’s English!
God I sound so British sometimes…
May 28, 2008 at 5:17 am
great idea!
May 28, 2008 at 7:45 am
@ Daniel – Ah yes the infamous add of the “u”. To be truthful back in elementary school I went through a phase during which I didn’t add the “u”. I decided to rebel and use American english spelling. But then in University, when I stopped caring that “u” started creeping in agian …
@ Shefaly – I don’t know if I could explain WHY my brand-timeline portrait went viral. Which means my clients wouldn’t listen to me anyways because clients always want “empirical” evidence. Your good old gut instict is just not enough.
@ jesse – thanks!

Thanks for the link love.
The best part about this going viral, is that it really is against all odds if you listen to the “virals must be easy to do/spread” crowd. It takes a little time to google up the logos and then slap them together in whatever picture program you use. Effort! Oh noes, the viral killer. That so many people did it anyway proves it was a good idea which is really all you need. (I’m nudging lots of people in Sweden to do these now, expect lots more Ikea logos soon). ;)
May 31, 2008 at 3:03 pm
Ikea Rules… I live in a total Ikeasphere!
Jane – thanks for the link… It was a genius idea you had and I learned that my alter ego is a complete brand whore. I’m ok with that I suppose :-)
June 1, 2008 at 4:10 am
Our company is a start up so majority of our office equipment is from Ikea! Ack, another brand I left out in my timeline, lol.
Thanks for the link Jane- I’m off now to check out the other Jane-inspired brand timelines.

Thank you guys for making them! I plan on doing some analysis of them … when I have some time. See if there is any trends, ect.

[...] So I started this blog. Because I have some things to say about people sharing. And how brands should get on there and help people share in a way that’s mutually beneficial. Because I think people will share content about brands if there’s a compelling reason to do it. Some are doing it already because the reason is the brand is part of their life. Some brands already do a good job at being part of daily life. [...]

May 19, 2009 at 11:49 am
This collection did develop to a great collection of Brand time lines. It’s been about a year since I posted mine now. And I might do a timeline comparing my kind of brands I encounter with.
May 19, 2009 at 2:09 pm
It’s strange, I saw several links posted in this page and I didn’t see any condom brands. It’s very strange, nobody has sex?
:-)
May 19, 2009 at 10:39 pm
hey jane, thanks for listing my site here.
Anyway, I just read some of ur postings. Love it. I always take my hat off for those working in advertising. Need a LOT of creativity to survive in that industry. I, myself, is a graphic designer, and had tasted a little bit of advertising, and I found out that I definitely wasn’t cut out for that .. :D , not an easy thing to do..
